Handi-Shop, Inc is a community-based organization dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities in a safe, supportive, and productive environment, which allows each person to achieve his/her highest potential and become as self sufficient as possible.
The Handi-Shop is a product of an idea from two local residents with handicapped children. Fred Lierheimer and Paul Bounds were concerned about the next step in life for their children who were about to finish school. After much research and volunteer hours, the Handi-Shop was incorporated in 1972. On June 4, 1973 the Handi-Shop opened its doors in the old Florsheim Shoe Company building in Mexico. In 1980, operations were moved from the old shoe factory building to 516 E. Liberty. In 1996 the assembly work and offices were moved into a building constructed adjacent to the old building. The old building is now home to the recycling center. When the Handi-Shop began, there were 15 employees. Now it is home to over 60 individuals with disabilities as well as 12 staff members.
The Board of Directors, Staff and Employees of the Handi-Shop, Inc. would like to thank the Mexico community and surrounding areas for their support over the last 50 years. Without the many kind contributions, donations and faith in our abilities to provide quality services, we would not have been able to succeed!
